Hi all

I got an email advertising a site where you can get nutrition information for food products and directions on how to use cosmetic and other drugstore items. The address is www.directionsforme.org and is through Horizons for the blind. Here is what it says on its home page, and I have already checked out the link for beauty products, and it does look quite easy to use.

Welcome to directions for me TM, your one stop source for accessible packaging information.

This site will provide a consistent, quality source of complete packaging information for everything from preparation instructions to ingredient lists to
Nutrition Facts labels for many common grocery, health and beauty products.

We encourage you to support our corporate partners who have made a commitment to the blind and visually impaired community. If you don’t see a specific
product listed on this site, please contact that company directly to suggest that they partner with us to make their packaging information accessible to
a large and often ignored market.

Directions was designed to be 100 percent accessible for text to speech users and also braille output devices. If you have difficulty finding any information
on this site, please contact us at
mail@directionsforme.org.

Thanks for posting this! I'll definitely be using it if the products that I like are on there. Some of the sites where I shop actually have directions in their product descriptions but several don't and this is really frustrating. And of course, if I buy something from the grocery store, that I've never tried, I don't know what it says, unless someone tells me, which is irritating at best. I think this site will be useful even if I get an ID Mate Omni, since I could read up on products before actually buying them if they're not in a regular store.

I saw that a few days ago. A much overdue website. Though I wonder how they'll keep such a large database up to date, more power to them.

Thanks for posting this, Becky! I've looked at it, and it appears to be a real find. Like you, Miah, I wonder how they get content up there, and keep it up to date. I have written them, asking just that question. I'm also wondering if they take donations to keep it funded? If so, I would actually be willing to donate to something like this, when I'm financially able to.

And this is a major reason why I continue to come on here: People like Post 1 who consistently put up posts with these sorts of things which make a huge difference in life. Sure I could have asked my wife when she had a chance to read directions off a package, but I've already gotten a couple of directions from there.
The latest is for a bag of frozen Foster Farms Hot and Spicy Wings ... does seem they have more food and beauty products than anything else, but those are also the easiest to automate by barcode, or type in if they're doing that.
This form of crowdsourcing is what's gonna make things a whole lot easier for us and those that depend on us.

Thanks LibraLady for posting this.

I wonder if users could contribute if they have a product that's not on there? This is truly a wonderful site.

Here is what it says on the home page about suggesting new products..."If you don’t see a specific
product listed on this site, please contact that company directly to suggest that they partner with us to make their packaging information accessible to
a large and often ignored market."

I'm glad to hear people are finding this site useful.
